Van, train collide at Southern and Dean

A van crashed into a train at the Southern and Dean rail crossing yesterday afternoon.

The van driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from Buckeye Fire Medical Rescue Department. The driver was transported to a local hospital.

The train's locomotive saddle tank was punctured, resulting in a diesel fuel leak. BFMRD was assisted by the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority and emergency response personnel from Goodyear, Surprise and Phoenix to secure the leak.

"The cause of the collision is under investigation by local law enforcement," reads the statement.
