Buckeye PD secures CALEA reaccreditation

The Buckeye Police Department has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), affirming its adherence to high standards in law enforcement and public safety communications.

On Nov. 15, department representatives testified before CALEA commissioners in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of the reaccreditation process. The commission unanimously granted Buckeye police their third Law Enforcement Reaccreditation and second Communications Reaccreditation.

CALEA accreditation is a voluntary, four-year process that evaluates agencies on policies, procedures, recruitment, training, equipment, and community feedback to ensure professional excellence. The Buckeye Police Department first achieved law enforcement accreditation in 2016 and communications accreditation in 2019.

"I’m proud of our team. We have the right people with the right attitude who continue to drive this agency forward," said Chief Robert Sanders in a press release. "My hope is that reaccreditation signals to our community that we are committed to helping people and meeting the highest standards for public safety service."

The department is also addressing the city's rapid growth by constructing a new 12,000-square-foot 911 communications center, expected to be operational by spring 2025. This facility aims to enhance response capabilities amid increasing service calls.
