The Buckeye Police Department was awarded more than $190,000 in six traffic safety grants from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
Grant No. 1: More than $30,000 for traffic investigations, overtime for officers, training and supply costs, and accident reconstruction equipment.
Grant No. 2: More than $8,000 for pedestrian and bike safety to cover helmets, police-ready bikes, cones and traffic signs.
Grant No. 3 and 4: $100,000 for DUI enforcement covering officer overtime on task force operations, saturation patrols and additional assignments over the holiday season.
Grant No. 5: More than $14,000 to train officers car seat installation certification in partnership with the Buckeye Fire Medical Rescue Department.
Grant No. 6: More than $36,000 to purchase hand-held speed radars for patrol officers.
"The Buckeye Police Department’s goal is to reduce devastating and deadly crashes even as our city rapidly grows," reads a press release from BPD. "Thanks to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Buckeye police have additional resources to support proactive traffic enforcement and community education."
