In anticipation of incoming fire stations in the Floreo at Teravalis and Victory at Verrado neighborhoods, Buckeye City Council approved the purchase of two new firetrucks.
Currently, the Buckeye Fire Medical Rescue Department's fleet does not have additional, properly outfitted trucks available for those communities and would have to fall back on reserve unit vehicles that are nearly 20 years old.
"Dependable fleet equipment is critical to ensure that the fire department is able to provide critical services to the residents which can result in life-or-death situations," reads city documents.
City Council approved to transfer up to $24 million in continency appropriations for the purchases from Ohio-based Sutphen Corporation. The Victory engine will be paid for through the city's new General Obligation Bond or impact fees. The Floreo engine will be paid for by the community's developer.
