Two residents attended the Oct. 15 regular Buckeye City Council meeting once again to express concern regarding the Monroe Avenue restriping project.
The first resident, who also spoke at the meeting two weeks ago, expressed particular concerns regarding the crosswalk. She described nearly being struck in a vehicular collision on that portion of the street. The resident called the restriping a “big distraction” and that it is the “dumbest and stupidest thing that the city has done.”
She claimed she spoke with a Phoenix Police Department officer who is a resident of Buckeye, saying he agreed with her concerns and that he called it an “accident waiting to happen.”
“And then someone mentioned to me that, with the way that it is now out there, it doesn’t take into consideration somebody who’s handicapped because it would take too long for them to get out with the traffic going out down there,” she said.
The second resident, who lives in Parkside in District 2, also returned to provide comment on Monroe. Two weeks ago, she expressed concern regarding why she had not received notice of the improvements. After speaking with representatives from the city, she learned this was because the community in which she lives was not included in the public notices due to being west of Miller Road. Even so, she said she is being negatively impacted by the changes and has spoken with numerous people who feel the same.
“Everyone hates the changes that are happening on Monroe and it’s a huge waste of money,” she said. “I’m not happy about it and it makes me want to say no when elected officials want bond money. I don’t like how you’re spending the money you already have.”

I saw the City Council meeting and the two gals that were complaining about the changes on Monroe need to speak for themselves alone. I didn’t see anyone there backing them up. I take offense to at least one of them stating that Everyone” hates the changes. To quote a teacher I had in high school…”that’s hasty generalization”!
I for one like the changes (improvements).
