District 6 Councilmember Clay Goodman was appointed as vice mayor at Tuesday's regular Buckeye City Council meeting.
The motion for his appointment was made by the current vice mayor Craig Heustis, councilmember for District 5. Vice mayors are elected annually during the first council meeting of December for a term of one year.
"I am honored and incredibly grateful to my colleagues on the Buckeye City Council for entrusting me with the role of vice mayor for 2026," wrote Goodman in a statement to InBuckeye. "Buckeye is not just a rapidly growing city, we are a community building a future through opportunity, quality of life and thoughtful development. As vice mayor, I am committed to working closely with Mayor Orsborn, the City Council and our great employees to ensure that our growth remains balanced and sustainable for our entire city.”
According to the city website, Goodman was elected as interim District 6 representative in 2020 and was formally elected into the role in 2022. He spent a 25-year career at Estrella Mountain Community College as vice president of academic affairs, vice president of occupational education and vice president of administrative services. He later worked as the training manager of Arizona Public Service's Non-Nuclear Generation Fleet before retirement.
