Former City of Buckeye employee Zack Thompson is suing the city, alleging wrongful termination and discrimination.
According to a GoFundMe campaign created by a friend of Thompson, he is a disabled veteran with a service dog who was "unjustly fired from his job in January due to discrimination and has since struggled to find full-time employment opportunities in the recruiting field."
In an interview with AZ Family, Thompson said he filed a notice of claim with the City of Buckeye in April and filed discrimination claims with the state. He alleged the wrongful termination was because of a request to bring his dog to work. InBuckeye has reached out to Thompson for comment.
The city said in a statement that an investigation is ongoing.
"Buckeye takes seriously our responsibility to treat all employees fairly," read the statement. "This is an ongoing personnel matter, and we look forward to a fair and thorough investigation of this situation."
