Buckeye and five other West Valley cities are inviting Arizona artists to create temporary public art. The communities will participate in HOLA, or Highlighting Our Local Artists. The West Valley Arts Council organized the regional initiative. HOLA connects artists with municipalities and community partners. Selected artists will develop original, site-specific installations for public spaces. Participating communities include Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Peoria, Surprise, and Tolleson.
This year’s theme is “Light.” Artists may explore illumination, shadow, reflection, transparency, refraction, or the sun’s movement. They may also present other symbolic interpretations of light. The installations will remain in place for at least two years. “We’re thrilled to work in partnership with six West Valley cities at once,” Executive Director Kathy Knecht said.
The council will host a free information panel for interested artists. The session runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. Desert Diamond Casinos West Valley will host the event. Publicly exhibited artists will discuss working with municipalities and creating successful proposals. They will also explain the public art selection and development process.
City representatives, artists, and community partners will participate in networking opportunities before and after the panel.
Artists of all experience levels may attend. The program includes opportunities involving murals, sculptures, and other public art forms.
Organizers require attendees to RSVP online. Applications for HOLA projects remain open through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. Artists can review eligibility requirements, guidelines, and project timelines on the HOLA application page.

I’d be interested to participate as an artist. I’m not sure what is being offered. Are you allowing artist to display our art? Art displaying work of light.
