Buckeye city manager resigns amid Glendale Police and DCS-led investigation

Buckeye’s city manager Dan Cotterman officially resigned today, days after the Arizona Department of Child Safety informed Buckeye’s police department of allegations against him, according to a statement released by the city.

Buckeye police voluntarily transferred the investigation to the Glendale Police Department to ensure an unbiased and independent investigation, according to the statement released. Buckeye police were informed on March 18 and transferred the case the same day.

“Cotterman has not been arrested or charged with a crime,” the city stated in a press release. “We recognize the need for answers and encourage our community to be patient as investigators gather the facts. Our priority is the prosperity and long-term success of our city.”

Glendale police said the investigation is ongoing but they aren’t releasing any details.

“At this time, all we can say is at the request of the city of Buckeye we are conducting this investigation,” they said. “This is an active and open investigation, and we will not be releasing any details about this case or the investigation. The reason the Glendale Police Department was contacted was to ensure that this investigation was handled in a professional manner and to avoid any conflict of interest from the City of Buckeye.”

The Buckeye City Council named Dave Roderique as the city’s interim city manager during an Executive Session on March 21. During the same meeting, the council also elected to place Cotterman on paid administrative leave for a period not to exceed 60 days.

Roderique has been with Buckeye since 2017 and served as the Economic Development Director for the city of Buckeye from July 2017 until 2022. Dave was appointed in 2022 to serve as the Deputy City Manager, and he currently oversees all development-related functions.

“The entire City Council is confident Mr. Roderique can continue leading the city during this interim time to ensure we stay on track with our strategic planning and sustainable growth initiatives,” said Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn.

  1. I think a lot of people who work for our city need to be investigated. what are they doing for our low income and our homeless. our streets are a joke in downtown. Our city employees need to be accountable for being at there job on time. I would like to know what you call low income housing?
