Buckeye police are asking parents to discuss safety with teenagers participating in “Senior Assassin,” a popular game involving water guns. The department said parents and educators have raised concerns about how students play the game.
Police outline three rules
In a Facebook safety message Monday, police offered three rules: Keep water guns colorful, choose safe locations, and be courteous. Police warned participants not to paint water guns to resemble real firearms, trespass on private property, or spray anyone who is not playing.
High school seniors generally play Senior Assassin. Organizers assign each participant a target, and players attempt to eliminate their targets by spraying them with water. Rules vary among groups.
Residents weigh in
The warning drew both serious concerns and humor. “Not a good game to play especially if that water pistol is painted black,” Danny Williams wrote. Debbi Miner warned, “I see tragedy potential here.”
Other commenters urged residents not to overreact. “Also don’t forget: try not to lose your mind if you happen to get sprayed with water. They’re kids,” a commenter using the name Unban Jared wrote.
Mercedes Sueshee wrote, “Okay but can we have the whole city play. Super soakers is for everyone!” Mary LeBeau also suggested a community event. “I say a city-wide water gun fight at Sundance Park would be cool,” she wrote.
Recent arrest highlights the risk
The Buckeye warning follows a recent incident in Queen Creek. Police arrested two 17-year-olds on disorderly conduct allegations after finding them playing Senior Assassin near a drive-thru restaurant.
Both teenagers carried water guns, and one wore a cloth mask. The incident injured no one.
Buckeye police did not ask the teenagers to stop playing. Instead, the department asked families to keep the game safe, lawful, and clearly recognizable as water-gun play.
