WATCH: Wi-Fi password argument ends in aggravated assault on Buckeye officer

Buckeye police released body-worn camera footage of a March 24 officer-involved aggravated assault that stemmed from an argument with a family member over a Wi-Fi password.

The suspect, 20-year-old Nhajj Scanes, was arrested and booked on charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and criminal damage, according to Buckeye police.

Watch the bodycam here:

Scanes, the son of a resident listed as a victim on the probable cause report, reportedly showed up at the residence but wasn’t let inside. He then proceeded to ask for the internet password from outside the front door to follow up on a job prospect, according to the police document.

When victims in the residence didn’t provide the password quickly enough, Scanes became enraged and started violently banging on the door, breaking it down. One victim had to stand firm with a baseball bat to ensure Scanes did not enter the premises, according to the probable cause report.

When police arrived, the officer activated his emergency lights in the roadway in front of the house. Police gave commands to Scanes, but he wasn’t compliant, according to the report.

The officer then parked his cruiser directly behind Scanes’s vehicle to prevent him from fleeing from the driveway. Scanes then allegedly “proceeded with colliding with the patrol car and the victim’s residence several times.”

The new bodycam footage then shows Scanes running from the police after he revs his engine and burns out his tires. Police were able to capture the suspect and arrest him without further resistance after a foot chase.
