A new sign teases the arrival of a new Vietnamese restaurant and bar concept slated for downtown Buckeye.
Viet Table, the restaurant concept, is slated to replace Millstone Cafe, a downtown eatery that operated in the shell of a house for nearly two decades.
Millstone Cafe's owners put the site up for sale last year, after nearly two decades downtown. Located across from Argento's Pizza & Wings, the area is considered a developing investment, with some focus from Buckeye development leaders to slowly work towards a refurbished and walkable downtown.
Suzanne Boyles, the city of Buckeye's economic development director, told attendees at a Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce breakfast on March 26 that a downtown makeover may take some time.
"Everybody's like, 'well, I want downtown to look like Gilbert.' Gilbert is a 40-year overnight success. Everybody goes to Gilbert, and it's like, 'This is amazing.' They started that 40 years ago, no kidding," she said. "It's going to take time. But you want it to take time. You want it to be organic."
Viet Table's location tease comes after Monroe’s Kitchen celebrated its grand opening in downtown Buckeye on April 24. Their menu touts mostly Italian-inspired food for dinner. InBuckeye's readers mostly expressed appreciation and excitement for a downtown concept on Facebook.
