Undercooked corndogs, scoop handle touching ice highlight Buckeye April food violations

According to Maricopa County's food inspection database, two Buckeye establishments had priority violations out of 78 health inspections conducted in April, and one establishment received a B rating for non-priority breaches.

Priority Violations

Love's Travel Stop & County Stores, located at 1610 South Miller Road, was hit with a priority violation. Corn dogs in the establishment were at internal temperatures ranging between 115 and 116 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the inspection report.

Per the report, the food should be maintained at 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above. A Love’s manager corrected the mistake by trashing the corndogs, which were sitting below temperature for at least three hours.

Verrado Golf Clubhouse, located at 4242 North Golf Drive, was also hit with a priority violation.

A dish machine in the clubhouse's main kitchen and bar measured at zero chlorine sanitizer. An ice scoop was found stored within ice, at the soda machine and also in an ice bar, with its handle touching the ice or product.

“In-use utensils must be stored in a clean, dry location; in running water; or in hot water above 135 degrees Fahrenheit,” wrote the inspector. “If utensils are stored in food, the handles must be stored above the surface of the food.”

Non-priority violations

Papa Johns, located at 944 South Watson Road, was hit for not having a “certified food protection manager” on-site during inspection. They were also noted for not caulking a gap between the wall and a sink near a food prep line.

The inspector claimed that fixing the gap could “prevent the harborage of pests.”
