Buckeye farmer and former Arizona State Senator Sine Kerr has been selected by Republican gubernatorial nominee Andy Biggs as his running mate for Arizona's first-ever elected lieutenant governor position. The announcement follows Biggs' victory in the Republican gubernatorial primary and places a longtime Buckeye leader on the statewide ticket.
Kerr is well known in Buckeye and throughout Arizona's agricultural community. A longtime dairy farmer, she joined the Arizona Senate in 2018 and later won three full terms. She served as Senate Majority Whip and chaired committees focused on agriculture, water, natural resources, and energy. Earlier this year, she became Arizona State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency.
The Kerr family's ties to Buckeye span generations. Bill and Sine Kerr have owned and operated Kerr Family Dairy, one of Arizona's longstanding dairy operations, and have remained active in the community through agriculture, business and civic organizations.
Their son, Wes Kerr, leads the family farming operation. Their daughter, Erin Kuiper, previously served as the founding General Manager of InBuckeye. She now serves as the incoming President and CEO of the Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce.
If elected, Kerr would become Arizona's first elected lieutenant governor, a constitutional office approved by Arizona voters in 2022. The lieutenant governor will serve alongside the governor and become first in the line of succession should the governor leave office.
For Buckeye residents, Kerr's selection marks another milestone for a family that has played a significant role in the city's agricultural heritage and business community for decades.
