An email landed in the InBuckeye newsroom Tuesday morning. Great Hearts Academy had been evacuated amid a reported bomb threat. The academy is located on Jackrabbit Trail in Buckeye.
Buckeye Police Department spokeswoman Carissa Planalp said, “Officers are currently working to sweep the campus and ensure there is no threat.” She advised that they had already blasted this message on their social media prior.
A Facebook reader named Monique Molina wrote that “the school has NOT been evacuated. You will begin sending parents into a frenzy wondering where their children are. Please coordinate with the school for accurate and timely information that coordinate together to avoid chaos.” Others were fast to correct her in the comments. Rachel Smith stated “Monique Molina, they did evac and transport kids to another location the notification was sent.”
Parents should check communications from the school for the reunification location and pickup instructions. Police have not released additional information about the threat or announced whether anything suspicious was found.
