Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers arrested a driver on suspicion of DUI after multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle racing through the West Valley at more than 100 mph days before Christmas.

According to DPS, the incident occurred Dec. 15 just before 5 p.m., when callers reported a vehicle traveling recklessly and weaving through traffic, nearly striking several other cars. One witness followed the vehicle at a safe distance while providing real-time updates to dispatch.

Troopers assigned to the Buckeye Squad located the vehicle on Interstate 10 near the State Route 85 interchange. A trooper observed the same reckless driving behavior and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle was slow to yield before pulling over on the right shoulder.

During the stop, troopers observed multiple signs of impairment. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and the driver was arrested for DUI.

A family member later told troopers the driver had left downtown Phoenix headed for a home in northern Surprise but somehow ended up on the west side of the Valley.

DPS officials again urged drivers to plan ahead during the holidays and use a designated driver or rideshare to avoid impaired driving.
