Playa Bowls, a national chain known for its superfruit bowls, smoothies and cold brew, will open its first West Valley location Aug. 9 in Buckeye.
Local entrepreneur Kable Record, a third-generation business owner and longtime West Valley resident, will operate the shop with his family. The location, at 1045 N. Verrado Way, will feature a beach-inspired design and an extensive menu of customizable bowls made with superfoods such as acai, pitaya, coconut, kale and mango.
The grand opening will include giveaways throughout the day. The first 50 customers in line will receive a free bowl and a custom Playa Bowls T-shirt.
“From the moment we discovered Playa Bowls, we knew it was something special—a place where folks can slow down, enjoy vibrant flavors, and feel good about what they’re eating,” Record said. “We’re stoked to bring a little slice of tropical escape to the West Valley.”
Record is partnering with his brother and parents to manage the location. General manager Amanda Quiroz will oversee daily operations. The family plans to open 10 Playa Bowls shops across the West Valley, including in Surprise, Lake Pleasant, Desert Ridge, West Gate, Arrowhead and Scottsdale. Each shop is expected to employ about 20 people, creating more than 200 jobs once all locations open.
Playa Bowls offers vegan, gluten-free and diet-friendly options that can fit Whole30, Keto and Paleo meal plans. In addition to bowls, customers can order smoothies, juices, cold brew and grab-and-go items.
The company was founded by surfers Abby Taylor and Rob Giuliani in Belmar, New Jersey, in 2014. Inspired by acai and pitaya bowls they tried while traveling, the pair started with a cart and a blender and have since grown the franchise to more than 300 locations in 27 states.
The Buckeye shop will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. For more information, visit www.playabowls.com/location/buckeye or follow @playabowlsbuckeye on Instagram.
