The Joe Foss Shooting Complex at Buckeye Hills Regional Park is set to officially reopen to the public Aug. 16, following a yearlong closure and a new management agreement with the city of Buckeye.
The reopening event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the facility, located at 26700 W. Buckeye Hills Drive, about 10 miles south of Interstate 10 along State Route 85.
The Buckeye City Council unanimously approved a 20-year agreement with Maricopa County Parks and Recreation in December 2024, granting the city full management of the complex. Under the deal, Buckeye will operate and maintain the facility, including overseeing all repairs, improvements and safety measures.
The range has been closed to the public since July 2024. When it reopens, the city plans to extend public hours to three days a week, Friday through Sunday. Final hours and operational details will be released closer to the reopening.
The Joe Foss Shooting Complex features a 50-yard pistol range and a 200-yard rifle range with 40 covered stations, accommodating up to 80 shooters. The site also serves as a training facility for law enforcement.
Originally opened in 2009, the range has historically been operated by non-profit organizations. Because the facility sits on Bureau of Land Management property, it must be managed by a government entity or non-profit group.
Residents can subscribe to the city’s Joe Foss Shooting Complex newsletter for updates.

Will you be able to watch the safety class on line ?
The prior years they had a couple of screens set up inside where you could watch the safety videos
The Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association will furnish FREE ASRPA RSO courses to the range if requested. We were instrumental in the range opening years back and even managed the range for several years before the AZCDL group took it over. This is a great range and we need many more of them.
