Italian-inspired Monroe’s Kitchen celebrated its grand opening in downtown Buckeye today.
Most of the Buckeye City Council attended the event near the city council building.
Councilman Jamaine Berry thanked the owners for bringing something new to downtown Buckeye.
“Growing up here in the town, I don't ever remember there being an Italian restaurant,” he said. “So, I would like to thank you guys for being innovators in our town, starting something new, and giving someone more variety and a place to come, besides just eating tacos.”
Maria and Ulysses Anaya, the owners, served the city councilmembers in attendance after the ribbon cutting.
Ulysses said he owes his cancer-surviving wife a debt.
“I want to thank everybody, all my friends, family and God for this opportunity, because it's been a really long journey for my wife,” he said. “She's a cancer survivor, not her dream, but she said, ‘You know what? Let's do something. I want to open up a restaurant.’ She has supported me throughout my entire journey, and I thank her for that. So I'm paying back now. I'll be working here every day.”
Monroe’s Kitchen is located at 416 Monroe Avenue.

Excited to try. They need a website though.
Great coverage Michael!
Going to visit this one. Good to see a new eatery making strides. Also continuing to keep that “ole hometown feel.” Be blessed Monroe’s Kitchen.
Give them a chance…omg they just opened!
Stopped in for breakfast with my lady friend, service and food was delicious, had French toast w/over easy eggs, hash browns & ham slice, filled us both up. Look forward to going back
