Gov. Hobbs proposes adding $12M to Executive Budget for Buckeye water

Gov. Katie Hobbs on Thursday proposed adding more than $60 million to defend Arizona's water future across five investments, including one major allocation in Buckeye.

One-fifth of the dollars would go to the City of Buckeye. Proposed is a $12 million grant for renewable water infrastructure to be awarded to the city government.

"Our future is really bright when it comes to water, and we’re taking steps to manage our basins and be good stewards," Mayor Eric Orsborn said, adding that he thought the city's relationship with the governor's office under the Democrat Hobbs was a positive one. "She's been a very pro-city governor, which is fantastic."

By enrolling in the new Alternative Designation of 100-year Assured Water Supply Program, the City of Buckeye "has committed to increasing the sustainability of its water resource portfolio," said the Arizona Department of Water Resources in a press release, "a major step forward toward creating sustainable growth."

"This allocation of $12 million will help Buckeye build infrastructure to reuse its effluent supplies and recover them from a hydrologically connected area, facilitating sustainable growth and increased use of renewable water supplies," read the press release.
