Feds seek public input on Buckeye’s plan to expand Skyline Regional Park

The Bureau of Land Management is asking for public input on the City of Buckeye’s proposal to lease 640 acres of federal land to expand Skyline Regional Park.

The expansion would take place under the federal Recreation and Public Purposes Act, allowing Buckeye to build and maintain two new public trailheads on the park’s north and south sides. The additional land lies along the eastern edge of the existing preserve, which spans 8,700 acres in the White Tank Mountains.

BLM’s environmental assessment of the proposal is now available online for review and comment through July 28.

“Buckeye is continuing to coordinate with the Bureau of Land Management as the next step in the process moves forward,” city spokesperson John O'Halloran told InBuckeye. “BLM will soon open a 30-day public comment period on the Environmental Assessment as part of the project scoping. This is a key milestone in the city’s efforts to secure a Recreation and Public Purposes lease for approximately 640 acres on the east side of Skyline Regional Park.”
