A man is lucky to be alive after his pickup slammed into a parked semi-truck along Interstate 10 just west of Buckeye early Thursday morning.
Just before 1 a.m. Oct. 16, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper responded to the eastbound lanes near Tonopah, where a red Nissan Frontier had crashed into a semi-truck stopped on the right shoulder.
The driver suffered cuts to his head and arm but escaped serious injury. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said.
During the investigation, a trooper noted signs of impairment and found illegal substances in the man’s possession. He was later arrested and charged with DUI and multiple felony drug offenses.
Officials say given the extent of damage to the vehicle, the driver is fortunate to have survived.
