Buckeye police said they are ready for anti-Trump protests which are planned for Buckeye and across the nation tomorrow, according to a social media post today.
A planned "No Kings Day" protest is expected to take place in Buckeye on Saturday, June 14, according to the organizer’s website.
The organizer's planned the event to coincide with President Donald Trump’s birthday, which will fall on the same day of a military parade featuring lines of tanks in Washington, D.C.
Thousands of anti-Trump protests are expected this weekend, including one at the state capitol in Phoenix.
"On June 14—Flag Day—President Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else," organizers wrote. "No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like."
Buckeye police cautioned against violence for the one planned in Buckeye, according to a social media post.
“Buckeye police are aware of planned protests expected to happen nationwide tomorrow morning. Some demonstrations may occur in our city,” it wrote. “Buckeye police support the right to peacefully assemble and express views. We will intervene if activity becomes unlawful or violent. Our number one priority is the safety of all members of our community.”
Buckeye’s “No Kings Day” protest is set to take place at S. Watson Road and W. Yuma Road at 9 a.m. Organizers are asking participants to sign up online, in case the venue changes.
