A 68-year-old Buckeye man reported missing last week was found dead today after an extensive search by police and volunteers.
Buckeye police said Richard Guy was last seen at his home on Aug. 18. His family contacted authorities on Aug. 21 after being unable to reach him.
On Aug. 25, officers located Guy’s car in a private lot near Miller Road and Sunrise Drive, according to a press release. Police launched a search of the surrounding desert area using off-road vehicles, drones and cadaver dogs. A Silver Alert was issued before the search.
Guy’s body was discovered around 6:30 a.m., approximately 200 yards from his vehicle, Buckeye police said. He was found in an advanced state of decomposition. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
Police thanked the community and the volunteers with Maricopa K9 Search and Rescue for their assistance.
“We share our deepest condolences with Richard’s family and loved ones in this difficult time,” Buckeye police said in a statement.
