Buckeye PD names man shot, takes over investigation of Friday police shooting

A man remains in critical condition following an officer-involved shooting in the West Valley early yesterday morning. Buckeye police officials have now identified the suspect and provided new details on the ongoing investigation.

According to the Tolleson Police Department, the shooting occurred around 2 a.m. at Mesa Cold Storage near 97th Avenue and Buckeye Road. Officers were involved in a shooting that left one man injured. No officers were hurt.

Buckeye police this morning issued an update confirming they are leading the investigation as part of the West Valley Incident Response Team. The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Ricky Henry Barron. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Investigators say a weapon has not been recovered at this time, as a search of Barron’s vehicle has not yet been conducted. The confrontation with police started when police officers were investigating a stolen license plate, according to news reports.

The authorities have not released information on what led up to the shooting. The investigation remains active.
