Buckeye focuses on workforce development, job opportunities

The City of Buckeye’s Economic Development Department is encouraging local businesses to invest in workforce development while announcing several programs designed to strengthen the city’s labor force and connect residents with quality jobs.

Reduce The Commute

Economic Development Business Manager Brian Wright emphasized that developing existing employees is key to Buckeye’s continued success. According to the World Economic Forum, nearly 39 percent of current job skills will be outdated by 2030, making training and professional development more critical than ever.

“Upskilling and reskilling are no longer optional,” Wright wrote. “Even a modest investment of $500 to $1,000 per employee each year can lead to significant gains in productivity and retention.”

Companies that invest in training see 218 percent higher income per employee, and 94 percent of staff remain with the company longer.

The city encourages businesses to start by identifying skill gaps and future needs, then focus on digital literacy, adaptability, and service excellence. Suggested low-cost strategies include cross-training, online learning, and partnerships with local colleges.

In addition to this initiative, Buckeye is hosting its annual Reduce the Commute Job Fair on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Landing, located at 945 N. 215th Avenue, Suite 137. The event will feature top employers hiring on site, educational partners, employer spotlights, and local food trucks. Job seekers can register in advance to reduce wait times.

Another upcoming program, the Ready 2 Work Resident Training Grant Initiative, will provide training for Buckeye residents pursuing careers in distribution and logistics, advanced manufacturing, and energy. The city is partnering with Estrella Mountain Community College and local employers to connect graduates directly to job opportunities.
