A local teen is facing a long list of charges after driving recklessly and speeding away from Buckeye police. Officers deployed a drone to track the suspect and safely make an arrest Saturday night in Verrado.
Buckeye police were conducting traffic enforcement around 11:30 p.m. near Verrado Way and Sunrise when they saw a male driver on an electric motorcycle fail to stop at a stop sign. The suspect sped away when he spotted the Buckeye police vehicle behind him.
Police launched a drone to track the suspect as he cut through a park, drove on a golf course path and travelled the wrong way on Victory Blvd. An officer activated lights and sirens to pull him over near Pasadena and 206th Ave, and the suspect, again, sped away. The drone continued to track the suspect and, a short time later, spotted him on foot pushing the motorcycle. That’s when officers took the suspect into custody.
The suspect, identified as a 16-year-old male, was booked into jail for felony flight, reckless driving and a curfew violation. Additionally, he was cited for not having a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license, no current registration and no insurance.
