Barbon Asadero is seeking $22,722 in city reimbursement for storefront improvements at its downtown Buckeye restaurant.
The City Council will consider the request Sept. 15 through Buckeye’s Economic Development Catalyst Program.
The agenda item also includes reimbursement for certain eligible city fees.
Applicant Isai Martinez proposes $32,943.90 in improvements at 343 E. Monroe Ave., Suite 105. The Mexican steakhouse and taqueria opened in January 2025, according to previous InBuckeye reporting. Plans call for an illuminated sign, two awnings, exterior lighting and planters with trees and shrubs.
The restaurant would also replace an unused second entrance with fixed glass matching the existing storefront.
Martinez wrote that removing the entrance would create more seating space and give the storefront a more uniform appearance. He also described the proposed landscaping and lighting as ways to make the sidewalk more inviting. The goal is to “enhance the curb appeal and visibility” of the business, Martinez wrote in the application.
The proposed reimbursement would cover about 69% of the listed project cost, excluding additional fee reimbursements. The program supports improvements to existing commercial properties across Buckeye. According to the city’s published guide, transaction privilege tax revenue funds the program.
Applicants pay project costs first, then seek reimbursement after completing the work. The city reviews payment records and verifies the improvements before issuing reimbursement. If council approves funding, the applicant must secure the required city approvals and permits before construction begins. An Aug. 17 city review identifies commercial design review, a remodel permit, and a sign permit. Planters or awnings extending into public right of way may also require an encroachment permit.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at City Hall.

That’s what the program is for. It has helped several businesses downtown.
