Arizona Public Service is moving forward with plans to expand its HUBwest facility in Buckeye, with a second phase that adds more than 43,000 square feet to its main administration building and upgrades across the existing campus.
According to a project narrative submitted to the city by RSP Architects, the Phase II buildout will stay within the current site boundary at 8100 S. State Route 85 and remain consistent with the original master plan previously approved by Buckeye planners.
The centerpiece of the expansion is a 43,180-square-foot addition to the main administration building, known as Building A. The addition will include the APS Central Stores facility and more administrative offices. The company also plans to finish developing the southern parking lot, adding landscaping, site walls, gates and fencing to match the look of the existing campus.
Additional work will include a 430-square-foot breakroom in the equipment yard and up to two 5,100-square-foot covered material storage structures. In the southwestern area of the site, APS is considering expanding its inventory recovery operations with a new 4,850-square-foot administration building, a 1,095-square-foot isolated materials structure, and a 4,340-square-foot covered material storage shed, as well as a new truck scale for fleet use.
The Central Stores expansion will be built with concrete tilt wall panels and maintain the design style of the original Building A. Rooftop equipment will be screened with penthouse-style elements similar to what was installed during Phase I. Other new buildings will match the site’s existing architectural style, using split-face concrete masonry with horizontal banding, and steel-framed or partially fenced enclosures for storage areas.
APS said the updates reflect current and future facility needs while maintaining a consistent look across the campus.
