Apartment developer Real Estate Equities recently submitted an initial application to the city of Buckeye for a 216-unit affordable apartment development at the southwest corner of Yuma Road and Dean Road.
The developer's targeted site is approximately 12.5 acres of vacant, undeveloped land currently zoned commercial between the Sundance community and Verrado Way, according to city records.
REE's unnamed development will include a mix of one—through four-bedroom units. Plans outline 414 parking stalls, of which 44 would be allocated to visitors or prospective residents.
Copa Flats Apartments, a sister complex developed by REE in Maricopa, features 100% affordable housing and accepts Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.
According to the U.S. government website Benefits.gov, housing-choice vouchers help very low-income families afford decent, safe and sanitary housing.
According to the initial business application, the site will bring more affordable housing to the area.
"The development of this property will expand housing opportunities for residents both in and outside the area. The development will provide a clean, safe, affordable, and quality housing option that is currently limited," REE wrote.
Since its founding in 1972, REE has developed, acquired and managed more than 12,000 multifamily rental apartment units.
The site will include a pool, fitness center, picnic areas with ramada shading structures, playground, and dog park.
The application lists Kaas Wilson Architects as the architect, and EPS Group is listed as the engineer on the project.
