Abrazo West Campus is expanding access to advanced specialty care across the West Valley, according to a press release from Abrazo Health. The expansion includes cardiovascular care, robotic surgery, neuroscience programs, and advanced stroke treatment.
Abrazo said the hospital is now the only DNV Comprehensive Stroke Center west of Interstate 17. The designation is DNV’s highest level of stroke care certification. It provides access to advanced stroke interventions and specialized neuroscience care closer to home.
The company said timely access is critical for patients experiencing strokes, heart attacks, traumatic injuries, and other serious medical emergencies.
“The communities we serve are continuing to grow at an extraordinary pace, so healthcare resources must grow alongside them,” said Larry D’Amico, Abrazo Health Arizona’s group chief strategy officer.
D’Amico said Abrazo is building a healthcare network designed to meet the region’s current and future needs. That network includes the 46,000-square-foot Litchfield Medical Building beside Abrazo West Campus.
The facility combines physician offices and an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in one location, according to the release.
New technology expands treatment options
Abrazo West Campus also opened a hybrid operating room combining advanced surgical and cardiovascular technology. The hospital became one of Arizona’s first facilities to acquire the da Vinci 5 surgical robotic system.
Doctors can use the system for minimally invasive colorectal, general surgery, urology, and gynecological procedures. Abrazo also added O-arm surgical imaging for complex spine and neurological procedures.
The hospital upgraded its cardiac catheterization laboratories and expanded its interventional radiology capacity. Additional improvements include a new inpatient pharmacy and expanded sterile compounding capabilities.
Abrazo also renovated and rebranded The Nest, its women’s services unit. The project focused on improving comfort and convenience for maternity patients. A new MAKO 4 robotic system will support total hip and knee replacement procedures.
The release also noted Abrazo’s 60,000-square-foot medical office building on Verrado Way in Buckeye. The facility offers cardiology, orthopedics, sports medicine, neurology, and other specialty services.
“Abrazo West Campus is committed to growing alongside the communities we serve,” said Brian Elisco, group CEO of Abrazo Health Arizona.
Abrazo Health employs more than 1,400 people in the West Valley, the company says. More than 1,000 of those employees also live in the region.
