Jesus Adrian Lastra-Perez faces five felony charges, including second-degree murder, in the Thursday shooting that killed David Washington.
Maricopa County court records now list a $1 million bond for the man accused of killing 36-year-old David Washington and wounding Washington’s 17-year-old daughter.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office records identify the suspect as 22-year-old Jesus Adrian Lastra-Perez.
Buckeye police arrested Lastra-Perez at 12:55 a.m. Thursday. MCSO then booked him at 12:10 a.m. Friday. He is currently housed at Lower Buckeye Jail.
Lastra-Perez faces five felony charges
Lastra-Perez now faces second-degree murder, a class 1 felony, and aggravated assault, a class 2 felony.
In addition, he faces three class 6 felony charges. Those charges include endangerment, discharging a firearm within city limits and disorderly conduct involving a weapon or instrument.
Court records show all five charges have moved to Maricopa County Superior Court. The court assigned the case number PF2026133339001.
Next, Lastra-Perez will appear in Superior Court at 8:31 a.m. Sept. 2. The court assigned the hearing to Early Disposition Court 5 at 175 W. Madison St. in Phoenix.
Police detained suspect within minutes
Buckeye police received reports of shots fired shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday. The shooting occurred at a home near Sienna Hills Parkway and McDowell Road.
At the time, a Buckeye police sergeant had just finished her shift and was driving nearby in uniform. She immediately responded and detained Lastra-Perez within minutes.
Shortly afterward, additional officers found Washington’s 17-year-old daughter suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers treated her until paramedics arrived and transported her to a hospital. Police described her injuries as non-life-threatening.
Officers then entered the home and found Washington suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
Police address social media speculation
Later, police clarified the relationship between Lastra-Perez and the victims. Lastra-Perez is the son of Washington’s ex-wife. He is not the teenage victim’s boyfriend, despite speculation on social media.
Investigators said everyone involved lived at the home. According to police, an argument occurred before Lastra-Perez allegedly opened fire.
Lastra-Perez faces accusations in this case and has not been convicted.
The investigation remains ongoing.
