Liberty Elementary School District No. 25 has purchased land for its eighth school. The new school will be named Loretta Zumbro Elementary School, honoring a long-serving district educator. Located on the north side of Lower Buckeye Road, between Perryville and Citrus Roads, the school will break ground on Friday, 13 September, at 7 a.m.
State-of-the-Art Learning Environment
The school will open in phases starting August 2025. Loretta Zumbro Elementary School will feature 73,512 square feet of modern learning environments for PreK to grade 8. The DLR Group and CORE Construction are collaborating on the project. Funding comes from the Arizona Department of Administration School Facilities Division's New School Construction program.
Liberty ESD Governing Board President Michael Todd praised the DLR Group's efforts. “When our bond failed, DLR Group worked diligently with our staff to create a design within budget,” he said.
Supporting Diverse Programs
The new school will serve up to 900 students and support the district's signature programs. These programs include agriculture, performing arts, dual language, career preparation, leadership, International Baccalaureate, and STEAM.
Honoring Loretta Zumbro
Superintendent Dr. Cort Monroe expressed pride in naming the school after Ms. Loretta Zumbro. “Ms. Zumbro has inspired countless students, teachers, and staff with her kindness, patience, and professionalism,” he said. Ms. Zumbro joined the district in 1986 as a fourth-grade teacher. She later served as Athletic Director and Technology Integrated Specialist. Reflecting on her career, she remarked, “I am honored to have served the Liberty community throughout my career. Every child deserves a champion in their life.”
