The Cougars visited City of Hope in Goodyear to drop-off Valentine’s Day letters
A handful of third grade students from Estrella Mountain Elementary School visited the City of Hope Phoenix location in Goodyear this past week, as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme Week of Service. These students took the initiative to write letters of thanks and encouragement to the nurses at City of Hope, expressing their gratitude for the nurses' dedication and reminding them to take care of their own hearts and health.
"I am incredibly proud of our outstanding third-graders for participating in this meaningful service project,” said EMES Principal Lynzee Booras. “A small group of students dedicated part of their holiday weekend to visit the nurses at City of Hope, showing their gratitude for the tireless work they do with patients and our Goodyear community. Their kindness and thoughtfulness truly embody the values of our International Baccalaureate Programme.”
Booras continued, “I also want to extend a big thank you to our third-grade teachers for organizing this visit as part of the EMES IB Week of Service. It’s a perfect example of how we’re fostering global citizens right here in our school.”
In a heartfelt demonstration of community support and learning, all students from Kindergarten through eighth grade at Estrella Mountain Elementary participated in a weeklong celebration of service, honoring the values of the IB Programme.
The staff at City of Hope welcomed the students and provided them with an informative tour of the hospital. Students learned about the vital role of CT scans and radiation in patient care, visiting both departments to gain a deeper understanding of these important medical practices.
“This experience not only allowed our students to give back to the community, but it also provided a hands-on learning opportunity, further embodying the principles of the IB Programme by encouraging students to become compassionate knowledgeable global citizens,” said Lynzee Booras.
The IB Week of Service was a meaningful opportunity for EMES students to learn, grow, and contribute to their community, while fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy that will last a lifetime.
“Having students make an impact on the greater community through thoughtful service and these acts of kindness are what really make the Liberty Elementary School District special,” said Superintendent Dr. Cort Monroe.
