Buckeye residents are invited to an open house to learn about the upcoming $8 million Durango Street widening project on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Buckeye Elementary School District Office.
The project, scheduled for Fiscal Year 2025/2026, will expand Durango Street from approximately 500 feet east of Miller Road to Yuma Road. Improvements include intersection upgrades at Yuma and Durango with new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, as well as a reconstructed half-street along property frontages. A landscaped center median will also be added to enhance roadway functionality and aesthetics.
Key features of the Durango Street project
- Widening Durango Street and extending it northward by approximately 1,200 feet
- Comprehensive intersection improvements at Yuma and Durango
- Addition of a landscaped center median to beautify and improve the roadway
This project is one of several infrastructure upgrades planned in Buckeye. Two other major projects include:
Miller Road enhancements (Durango to Lower Buckeye)
- Cost: $13.17 million
- Timeline: Fiscal Year 2025
- Scope: Adding a northbound lane and dedicated turn lanes at key intersections, resurfacing southbound lanes, and improving traffic flow with new median turn lanes.
Watson and Broadway intersection improvements
- Cost: $11.84 million
- Timeline: Fiscal Year 2025/2026
- Scope: Development of the west half of Watson Road near Broadway, with pavement tapers to align lanes at the intersection. Future plans will include major arterial enhancements.
Residents attending the Durango Street open house will have the opportunity to review project maps, ask questions, and provide input. Officials encourage community participation to ensure the improvements meet local needs.
