Two grants totaling about $166,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration and Arizona Department of Transportation will provide runway updates to Buckeye Municipal Airport, accommodating larger aircrafts.

Buckeye City Council approved receipt of the grants on its Sept. 16 regular meeting. The funds will update the existing Runway 17-35 and Taxiway A, designed by Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. Upgrades to electrical infrastructure, navigation systems and taxiway redesignations will be completed over the course of the project. According to city documents this aims to "make the Buckeye Municipal Airport more attractive to future expansion and economic development opportunities."

The FAA's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act grant provides $161,421, and ADOT's grant contributes $4,248. The city will match the ADOPT grant with an additional $4,248.
