At its regular Nov. 5 meeting, Buckeye City Council approved the submission of two grants for the downtown area which would provide funding to pave alleyways and prune trees.
Downtown alleyways: $472,110 from Maricopa Association of Government’s Federally Designated Disadvantaged Communities grant program to pave four downtown alleyways.
According to city documents, paving the alleys would reduce dust and particulate matter emissions. The grant falls under MAG’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement sector.
Forestry and fire management: $66,710 from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management’s Community Challenge Grant program for a year-long structural pruning of 25 trees downtown.
This contributes to tree health and maintenance, according to city documents, and preserves “the health and beauty of trees, enhancing their longevity and ensuring public safety in Buckeye.”
The action taken by the mayor and councilmembers on Nov. 5 resulted in submitting the grant applications only. Funding will be received and implemented if the awarding departments select the city’s bid.
