There are 17 more eyes in the sky around Buckeye after the city council voted Feb. 18 to purchase additional Flock Public Safety License Plate Readers.
“The additional Flock LPRs will provide criminal intelligence data to increase the department’s proactive response to solving criminal activity with the intent to prevent criminal activity from occurring,” read city documents. “The locations of these cameras have been identified to provide virtual police coverage to new growth areas including residential and commercial/retail.”
The cameras will be placed in “outbound locations,” according to the documents, and will cover inbound and outbound traffic. The city already has a contract with Flock of $518,250, and the vote increased that to $595,800 for the new cameras.
The vote was unanimous Tuesday.
