A man has been charged with firearms misconduct and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pulling a gun on two people at a Buckeye home on the evening of Sep. 8.
According to police records, the incident occurred when Bernard Foreman, 59, picked up his stepdaughter from another house in Buckeye. Two victims are noted in the records: Victim 1 at whom Foreman pointed the gun, and Victim 2 who is the grandmother of Victim 1.
According to the grandmother, Victim 1 opened the door when Foreman arrived to pick up his stepdaughter and shook his hand. That was when the interaction allegedly escalated.
"Victim 1 closed the door suddenly and reported Bernard had pulled a gun on him," reads the report. "Victim 2 went to the door and opened it to see Bernard sitting in his vehicle pointing the gun at the front door."
According to Victim 2's report to police, Foreman "put the gun away" when he saw Victim 2 standing in the doorway. She allegedly then spoke with Foreman who said Victim 1 pushed him, prompting him to pull the gun in self-defense. Foreman and his wife reiterated this statement to police later in an interview.
"Bernard claimed he pulled the gun out of defense and sheer reaction," reads the report. "Bernard denied having the gun out after the initial incident with Victim 1."
Officers spoke with a witness on scene who also reported that Foreman was seen pulling a gun on Victim 1. The gun was a semiautomatic handgun which he wore in a concealed holster. Foreman was arrested that evening by Buckeye Police Department and booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing tomorrow.
