Buckeye police name suspect in overnight shooting

A Buckeye man is in custody after an overnight shooting that left another man injured near Maricopa Road and Sunset Point Boulevard, according to a Buckeye police press release.

Officers responded to a shots-fired call just after 1 a.m. Tuesday. The victim told investigators he was sitting in his SUV with a woman he had met online when a man opened fire on the vehicle. The woman got out of the SUV, and the victim drove a short distance away to call 911.

The victim, who suffered a gunshot wound, was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, according to police.

Detectives located the woman at a nearby home and learned she lived there with a man in his 20s. That man was later interviewed and arrested on charges connected to the shooting. Alejandro Nambo Delacruz, 27, was arrested and booked into jail on multiple felony charges.

According to jail records, Delacruz faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal damage, disorderly conduct with a weapon, and discharging a firearm within city limits. His bond is set at $100,000, and his case has been bound over to Maricopa County Superior Court.
