A domestic violence incident turned deadly Sunday afternoon when a grandmother allegedly shot her granddaughter at a home near 254th Avenue and Carson Drive.
Just after 4 p.m., Buckeye police responded to a call reporting a shooting. Officers issued commands for the home's occupants to exit, and a woman in her 50s was detained without incident. Inside, officers found a woman in her early 30s unresponsive and suffering a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, the granddaughter was pronounced dead at the scene.
Buckeye police identified the victim as 31-year-old Larkeya Elliott. The suspect, Elliott's grandmother, is 71-year-old Debra Greene-Davis. She has been booked into jail.
Greene-Davis was located inside the home with a handgun nearby. She was detained without incident. Authorities say the incident appears to involve domestic violence, though the investigation is ongoing.
