Residents across the West Valley can expect a week of triple-digit temperatures and sunny skies, while air quality officials are warning that elevated ozone levels could pose health risks in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has issued an Ozone High Pollution Advisory for Monday, citing weather conditions and existing ozone concentrations that are expected to produce unhealthy air quality levels throughout the region.

According to ADEQ, elevated ozone levels can cause breathing difficulties, particularly for children, older adults and people with respiratory conditions. Health officials recommend reducing strenuous outdoor activity when air quality deteriorates.

The advisory comes as temperatures are forecast to remain above 100 degrees through the weekend.

Monday's forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 103 degrees, with light winds shifting from the south-southeast to the west-southwest during the afternoon. Overnight temperatures will remain warm, dropping only to around 73 degrees under mostly clear skies.

The hot pattern is expected to continue Tuesday, with another sunny day and a high near 103 degrees. Overnight lows will fall to about 72 degrees.

Temperatures are forecast to climb even higher on Wednesday, reaching a high near 105 degrees, making it the hottest day of the week. Mostly clear conditions will persist overnight, with lows around 73 degrees.

By Thursday, temperatures will ease slightly to a high near 104 degrees. Winds will remain relatively light during the day, although gusts could reach 20 mph Thursday night as temperatures settle near 73 degrees.

A gradual cooling trend is expected heading into the weekend, though conditions will remain well above normal for early June. Friday's high is forecast near 102 degrees, with breezy afternoon winds and gusts up to 20 mph. Overnight lows will remain in the low 70s.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to bring more sunshine, with highs around 101 degrees and 100 degrees, respectively. Breezy southwest winds are anticipated both days, with gusts reaching 20 mph at times.

No precipitation is in the forecast through the seven-day period, continuing the region's dry weather pattern.

In response to the ozone advisory, ADEQ is encouraging residents to help reduce emissions by carpooling, telecommuting when possible or using public transportation. Officials also recommend limiting the use of gasoline-powered lawn and landscaping equipment or operating it later in the day when ozone formation is less likely.

With both extreme heat and elevated ozone levels in the forecast, health officials advise residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day and monitor air quality conditions, especially if they are sensitive to respiratory pollutants.
