‘The Flying Pickle’ pickleball franchise files plans with Buckeye

A popular pickleball franchise could soon set up shop in Buckeye, according to a business pre-application recently filed with the city.

Plans submitted by The Flying Pickle outline two different design options for a large indoor facility in “Courts Building B” that would feature up to 18 pickleball courts. Both options were drawn by design firm Cushing Terrell and submitted June 3.

Option A would accommodate 18 total courts across 60,019 square feet but notes potential challenges with emergency exits that would require “further investigation,” according to the filing. That plan includes 12 courts measuring 64 by 34 feet, four smaller 64-by-30-foot courts, a championship court and spectator seating.

Option B, marked as the “preferred option,” would scale the design down slightly to 17 courts in 58,015 square feet. It features a similar mix of court sizes but would dedicate more space to a flex room, workout area and spectator seating.

In addition to the courts, both plans include a pro shop, reception area, restrooms, locker rooms, kitchen and office space.

The city’s pre-application process allows developers and city staff to discuss potential issues and receive early feedback before filing formal site plans. No official location or timeline for construction has been announced, and the project remains in the early planning stages.
