An injured woman was air lifted from Skyline Regional Park Tuesday when Buckeye fire and rescue crews determined she was too far into the remote trail system to bring out on foot.
A little after 3 p.m. rescue crews responded to a call involving an injured hiker roughly two miles into the trail system who had a minor ankle injury.
When crews found the woman, she had run out of water and was experiencing mild dizziness, according to Buckeye fire officials.
“Due to the remote location and challenging terrain, crews determined that the safest method of extraction was by helicopter,” stated Rayne Gray, assistant fire chief. “The patient was treated on scene by fire personnel and safely removed from the area.”
Crews from Avondale, Arizona Fire & Medical Authority and Phoenix assisted in the rescue.
“Following the rescue, crews hiked back to their apparatus and returned to service,” Gray stated.
“This incident serves as an important reminder as temperatures rise across our region,” Gray said. “Anyone planning to hike should bring more water than they think they will need, understand their physical limits, and consider starting early in the day to avoid peak heat conditions.”
