The City of Buckeye announced Thursday the launch of its Hometown Heroes Banner Program to “celebrate the courage and sacrifice” of local military heroes.
“Drive through downtown Buckeye and see the faces of those who've served,” reads a statement from the City. “From May to July, banners featuring our brave service members and veterans will line Monroe Avenue.”
Residents who would like to honor a family member or lost loved one who served in the military can submit information to the city.
“To be eligible, an individual must be currently serving in the US Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard); or a veteran who was honorably discharged or given their life in service in the US Armed Forces,” the statement reads. “The individual must also be, or have been, a resident of Buckeye or their family must reside in Buckeye.”
Up to 30 hometown heroes will be featured each year on light poles along Monroe Avenue, according to the city.
“Our selection process includes vetting all candidates and prioritizing those with high-quality image submissions,” the statement reads. “If your nominee isn't selected this year, and they meet our guidelines and submit a high-quality photo, their banner will be considered for the following year. If we do not have enough submissions for the current year, we reserve the right to randomly choose a banner from the previous year.”
Residents must submit a nomination online before March 1.
