Residents are invited to a community meeting on Thursday to learn about planned improvements to Watson Road from Lower Buckeye Road to Elwood Street.

City leaders will present the plan 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at The Landing, 945 N. 215th Ave., Suite 137.

In July, Buckeye began developing a Design Concept Report for improvements to Watson Road, with a goal of improving “safety and access to homes and businesses in the area, and adding capacity to the roadway to accommodate anticipated growth,” according to a statement released by the City of Buckeye.

The Project Team will collect data and analyze the current roadway conditions that apply to drainage and utilities, as well as meet with “stakeholders and members of the community to gather information and input and respond to questions.”

The $10 million project planned to begin this year includes adding travel lanes in each direction to Watson Road, upgrading intersection, lighting, striping and signage, building new curbs, gutters and sidewalks and landscaping to beautify the area and improve roadway functionality, according to city documents.

Other construction news

Additionally, the eastbound Interstate 10 on-ramp at Jackrabbit Trail will close on Thursday night.

Drivers should plan for other restrictions, including ramp closures, at the I-10/Jackrabbit Trail interchange through mid-March.

The on-ramp is expected to remain closed through 5 a.m. Friday.
