Police in Buckeye have arrested a suspect after a late-night shots fired incident in Verrado earlier this month, crediting a combination of investigative work and department technology.
According to police, officers responded just after 10:30 p.m. on April 21 to reports of gunfire near Verrado Way and McDowell Road.
Witnesses told police they saw an individual in a white pickup truck fire multiple rounds in a parking lot before fleeing the scene.
No injuries or property damage were reported, though officers recovered several shell casings.
Detectives later developed a suspect description and used tools within the department’s Real Time Information Center, including camera systems and license plate readers, to locate the vehicle.
On Tuesday afternoon, officers tracked the white pickup truck to an area near the Sundance Golf Course, where they detained the driver.
Michael Rumsey, 34, of Salome was taken into custody and booked into jail on a charge of discharging a firearm within city limits, according to a statement from Buckeye police. During a search of the vehicle, officers also recovered a handgun, police stated.
