Highway Patrol State Troopers made some key stops on vehicle s far beyond the speed limit during the holiday weekend.
On Thursday, a Highway Patrol State Trooper saw a red Camaro driving at 108 piles per hour in a 65 MPH zone on Interstate 10 near Exit 122 (Perryville Road) in Buckeye.
As the Camaro passed the trooper, it abruptly cut across all lanes of travel and exited the freeway, running a red light in the process, according to AZDPS officials.
The Trooper caught up to the Camaro and stopped it, according to AZDPS.
"The driver was a minor with a class G driving permit, and did not have a licensed adult over 21 sitting in his front passenger seat, as required by state law," according to a statement on the AZDPS social media post. "Additionally, his front passenger was a minor and a second passenger was sitting on an unsecured seat cushion, with no back to it and no seatbelts installed, in the back of the car. The driver was cited with reckless driving and criminal speed. The vehicle was released to his parents rather than impounded."
Two other incidents
[AZDPS]LAVEEN, AZ - On March 30, 2026, a Trooper observed a black lifted Dodge 3500 pickup on AZ-202 northbound at Estrella in the HOV lane at a very high speed, passing everything in sight. Speed measured at 33 MPH over the posted speed limit, including the Trooper. The driver, a holder of a Class A commercial driver’s license with multiple endorsements, did not have a reason for his speed. When he was told the phrase “go big or go home” shouldn’t apply to his speed he replied with “I guess I was trying to do both.” He further said he never speeds because it negatively impacts his commercial license. In addition to being charged for criminal speeding, he was also charged for failing to provide proof of insurance.
[AZDPS]MUNDS PARK, AZ - On March 18, 2026, a Trooper observed a silver SUV traveling at a high rate of speed on I-17. A LIDAR device recorded the speed of the vehicle to be 100 MPH in a posted 75 MPH zone. The driver apologized for her speed but did not have a reason for her speed other than just trying to get out of the "heat." Due to the driver's children being in the vehicle the driver was criminally cited and the vehicle was released.
