Buckeye police responded to Freedom Elementary School around 4 p.m. today to investigate reports of a fight and an armed subject on school grounds.

The incident occurred as the school was being dismissed for the day, according to Buckeye police.

Officers arrived on the scene and detained a 15-year-old female, a 17-year-old female, a 17-year-old male, and a 19-year-old male who had a handgun. None of the juveniles were students at Freedom and no one was hurt, according to BPD.

"During the investigation, it was learned some of the suspects know each other and had arrived at the campus to pick up relatives who attend the school," said Carissa Planalp, a Buckeye police spokesperson. "That’s when a fight broke out and the armed suspect, identified as 19-year-old Iriel Rivera, lifted his shirt to reveal the handgun in his waistband. Rivera was arrested and booked into jail on multiple weapons charges. The three juvenile suspects were also arrested and face various charges including disorderly conduct and disrupting an educational institution."

InBuckeye reached out to Liberty Elementary School District for comments and will update the story once it is received.
