Arizona Highway Patrol troopers have located an elderly person first reported missing on Feb. 16.
Family members told the highway patrol they were “attempting to locate a late family member who was described as being elderly with diminished cognitive abilities,” according to a post on social media.
Highway Patrol officials stated that the family was able to track the subject’s vehicle “intermittently,” but they were unable to “catch up to it as it drove erratically through several districts.”
After about an hour, the vehicle entered the Buckeye area. That’s when the “concerned family member called back and requested that Troopers assist in locating it,” the post states.
“A Trooper from Buckeye called the family member directly and began receiving updates from their tracker as they canvassed the area,” Highway Patrol officials stated.
“During this time, it was noted that the sun was going down and a storm was rapidly moving through the area.
“Despite the driver changing directions multiple times, the Trooper was able to stop the vehicle on AZ-85 roughly a mile from Narramore Road.
“The driver was located unharmed and was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
“During the course of the investigation, it was found that the driver had been the subject of an attempt to locate earlier in the week under similar circumstances and had also been located by another trooper in Phoenix unharmed.
“After meeting with the family member on scene, the Trooper discussed options to prevent the driver from driving again and directed them to resources.
